On March 7th, 2019, YSU Ijevan Branch Library hosted a meeting with honored journalist, writer, publicist, founder and researcher Ruben Simonyan, who has managed to study the history of Tavush Region settlements, published separate books about different communities, as well as engaged in Genealogy.

The meeting aimed to conduct a discussion on “Historical-architectural monuments of Tavush region and its location” with the students of “History” Department, attended by Vladimir Poghosyan, lecturer of YSUIB Department of Armenian History and Social Sciences, Head of YSUIB Library.

During the discussion, R. Simonyan presented the history of the famous historical and architectural monuments of the region, particularly those monuments that need to be studied and are out of sight of the researchers. “Let’s try to touch on the issue of one of the most famous fortresses of Medieval Armenia, the location of the Kayan fortress, which is still the object of various investigations. We are convinced that by specifying the location of that monument, it will be possible to clarify other historical facts, and the researchers will be freed from further futile quests. From the Ijevan Ridge to the left of the Aghstev River, between the two deep canyons, the peninsula is known to local residents by the name of Evlikut yal. However, it is unknown to the residents because of being completely covered with crabs. The rugged castle palette stretches along the edge of the two beams, which is 2.5-3 meters high in some parts and interrupted when facing steep cliffs, as approaching them was simply impossible for the attackers and the area’s enlargement made it possible to accommodate the whole population of the province. “

The speaker also presented the other monuments of Tavush region, its location and the need to carry out research.

The head of YSUIB library V. Poghosyan expressed his gratitude to Ruben Simonyan, expressed his desire to organize further meetings and visits to monuments, as well as carry out the discussion of Ruben Simonyan’s newly published book entitled “Ijevan”.
