Marine Andrasyan The Manifestation of the Social Life of America in John Chee­ver’s Stories. In the article we analyze the influence of the 20th century social life of America in the psychology, insights and consciousness of the middleclass Ame­ri­can. Rising this topic in his stories, John Chiveer portrays his protagonist as a midd­le­class man, who has serious disagreements with his family, wife, children and parents be­cause of the financial problems and is deprived of family warmth, which makes his men­tal decline more deeper. In John Chiveer’s stories we can observe the author’s dual atti­tude towards his protagonists. By criticizing his heroes, the writer meanwhile ex­pres­ses his sympathy to the people, who have become victims of the circumstances of ti­me.
