- Lecture on the topic " Mshak newspaper as a source for the study of everyday social processes"
It should be noted that the research was carried out with the financial support of the NAS of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of the "Young Scientists Support Program" (code: 23-YSSS-017).
Referring to the implementation and results of the research program, V. Poghosyan noted that the aim of the research is to analyze the information provided by one periodical (the “Mshak” newspaper) to complete the main issues of everyday life in the Kazakh district of the Elizavetpol province at the beginning of the 20th century. To achieve this goal, the researchers set themselves the following tasks: to study the dynamics of demographic processes of the period in the Armenian-populated rural communities of the Kazakh district of the Elizavetpol province, the manifestations of the daily life of the population, the peculiarities of material security, the ways of adapting to natural and artificial difficulties, to characterize the social, religious, as well as political realities characterizing the daily life of the local residents in the 1900-1910s, their ideas about various processes, religion, and education. The speaker noted that more than one thousand five hundred articles and letters from “Mshak” were selected for the research, the authors of which were either Kazakh Armenians (in modern Tavush region) settlements), or the columnists of the "Mshak" newspaper address the problems of the region.
It was presented that a number of methods and principles were used during the research, which contributed to the identification and study of issues related to the research topic. The socio-cultural principle was particularly important, which made it possible to reveal the everyday beginnings of the Armenian population of the Ghazakh district of the Elizavetpol province, with the interweaving of social, economic, political, and customary factors.
As V. Poghosyan noted, the results of the research were summarized in four published and submitted articles, one of which was submitted for publication in a journal with an impact factor.
The speech ended with a question and answer.
Deputy Director of YSU Ijevan Branch M. Otaryan touched upon the implementation of the grant program and noted that he was regularly informed about the research process, achievements, and discovery of interesting facts, and emphasized the importance of conducting such research not only from the perspective of studying the historical past of the region, but also as a format for studying the daily problems of other regions. In the end, the Deputy Director and those present thanked the research team, emphasizing the importance of implementing and publicizing such programs.
