On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the formation of the Armenian Army, on behalf of the YSU IB Board of Directors and the entire staff, we warmly congratulate and express our deep gratitude to all our soldiers, all those who contributed to the creation and establishment of the Armenian Army, the sacred defenders of the native land, all our university students who heroically fought for the sake of the homeland and did not spare their lives….

The Armenian Army is one of the significant achievements of our history, the guarantor of the defense and security of the homeland, created in the wake of the Artsakh Liberation War on the basis of the earthkeeper-volunteer detachments.

In 1990, after the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, the Yerevan Special Regiment was formed, and detachments were formed in Ararat, Goris, Vardenis, Ijevan and Meghri. By the decision of the government in 1991, the State Defense Committee under the Council of Ministers was established. On January 28, 1992, the government adopted a decision on the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia.

In 1992-1993, a mobile and disciplined army was created by uniting the earthkepeer- volunteer detachments and conscripts.

Since June 1994, the work on army building, sustainable development, increasing the combat effectiveness of the troops, strengthening discipline, and preparing and retraining middle and senior officer personnel has finally begun.

In 2001, the day became a holiday when it was enshrined in the Law on Holidays and Memorial Days as Army Day.

On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the formation of the Armenian Army, we congratulate and wish our country a powerful army with high combat effectiveness, our brave soldiers - a resilient and victorious spirit, high professional training and trouble-free service….
