Anna A. Sargsyan is a 4th year student of the on-site educational system of the bachelor's degree program "Psychology", a nominal scholarship holder for the previous and current semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. As a psychologist, Anna is convinced that a physically and mentally healthy society sets strategic goals and makes far-sighted decisions. Psychological support has a great impact on individuals and groups, contributing to the improvement of their quality of life.

-About realizing your professional dream...

- I was only 9 years old, I can’t even remember which movie, but I remember very well how much I admired the actress who played the role of a therapist. Nine-year-old Anna began to love a profession that she had never heard of and had no idea that one day she would grow up and become the embodiment of that character.

Before the entrance exams, I changed my future profession several times, from archaeologist to journalist, but nine-year-old Anna’s love for an unfamiliar profession won out. The important thing for me was that I understood and realized quite early what was close to my heart and what was not. Even today, it is one of my strengths, which I always rely on in any situation.

Little Anna did not know how a psychologist differs from a psychotherapist, and today she has a clear goal to engage in therapy.

Now I already have a second goal: After continuing my education, I would like to return and lecture at the university where I received my fundamental knowledge of psychology.

-The first steps of basic education or career at YSU IB...

- Studying at YSU IB is not only the acquisition of knowledge, but also an opportunity to establish new connections, work in a team environment and learn to solve complex problems. This opportunity was given by our best lecturers, whose knowledge can be used endlessly.

I learned through a unique educational method in the classes of my very beloved lecturer, friend Professor Poghosyan, to analyze fiction books from a psychological perspective. There is no more pleasant feeling than empathizing with the hero of the work, feeling his feelings and emotions, appreciating and respecting his state of mind. The university has greatly contributed to my self-knowledge: as soon as you begin to know yourself, you know the world around you.

The university is an experience that helps to clarify your professional path and prepare for positioning in the labor market. Based on the knowledge acquired in the bachelor's degree, it is possible to face the challenges of the time, and continuous learning and development are the key to the future.

-The irretrievable student years at your university...

- Our professors have always given us the opportunity to express ourselves (even about the most absurd ideas), and they have listened carefully and understood what we said without an evaluative attitude, which is very important.

In my first and second years, I actively participated in the work of the Student Council and the Student Scientific Society, in which involvement is also an opportunity to develop skills. During the forced displacement of Artsakh residents, our university and local NGOs also initiated volunteer work, and in those processes I became an active volunteer of the “Restart Ijevan” scientific and educational NGO, and later also an employee. Most of my skills were formed during volunteering and work.

My greatest achievement at the university is my relationships: my coursesmates, with whom I discover myself every day, and the professors who help me establish myself in the field. University life teaches you to overcome difficulties and create memories that serve as a compass for your whole life.

-Your profession as one of the directions of the country's development...

- As a psychologist, I am convinced that a physically and mentally healthy society sets strategic goals and makes far-sighted decisions. Psychological support has a great impact on individuals and groups, contributing to the improvement of their quality of life. The demand for psychological services in our society is growing, which is also due to recent events: wars, earthquakes, as a result of which there is a large job gap in work with loss, grief, post-traumatic stress disorders, anxiety attacks and a number of other problematic areas.

Providing children with special educational needs with the opportunity to receive education in schools contributes to the formation of a healthy and individualized educational system.

-YSU IB provides students with…

- Ijevan branch of YSU has given me and other students a lot and continues to give me: high-quality education in line with modern requirements, participation in scientific research, seminars and conferences, experience in sectorial structures during studies, forming a wide circle of acquaintances, the opportunity to get involved in various student structures for interesting, memorable and meaningful days. YSU IB provides support in paying tuition fees through scholarships, discounts, and grant programs.
