The course aimed to raise awareness and build capacity among young people regarding the protection of the environment, biodiversity, and human rights.

The thematic module "Environmental Rights and Human Rights-Based Approaches" sought to enhance the awareness and capabilities of young people in the fields of environmental and human rights protection, thereby promoting the application of rights-based approaches to environmental issues and community development processes. First and second year students from the "History" educational program at YSU Ijevan Branch's Faculty of Humanities discussed ecosystems and ecosystem services, the importance of biodiversity conservation, and the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), international obligations, and COP 17 processes with their instructor.

The program consisted of three modules, offering participants the opportunity to actively engage in an in-depth study of the environment, biodiversity conservation, and human rights-based approaches.

Particular attention was paid to the human rights-based approach (HRBA) in the management of ecosystems and biodiversity, as well as to the principles of ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA). During the practical session, participants engaged in a role-playing game titled "Our Community's Forest Is at Risk," examining the interconnection between environmental issues and human rights through situational scenarios.

The course enabled students not only to acquire new knowledge but also to develop practical skills for analyzing environmental issues from the perspective of human rights protection and applying approaches aimed at resolving them.

The meeting concluded with a Q&A session, during which students summarized the topics discussed and received answers to their questions.
