On December 18th, 2018, at YSU Ijevan Branch Faculty of Economics, a seminar-discussion on RA monetary policy was held, conducted by the representatives of the Central Bank of Armenia, Head of Monetary Policy Department Vahagn Grigoryan, Director of Dilijan Training and Research Center Armen Nurbenkyan, Economist Arthur Ghalachakhyan of the Economic Research Department.
It was organized in partnership with the Director of Dilijan Research Center Armen Nurbenkyan and YSUIB Faculty of Economics, Student Scientific Society and Student Council.
During the seminar-discussion, the essence of the policy of the Central Bank of Armenia was thoroughly discussed. It was noted that until 2006, the CB aimed at monetary aggregates. Further research has shown that this method has many problems and low efficiency, so in 2006 the transition to inflation targeted.
Another item of discussion was the issue of unemployment in Armenia, the level of premium inflation, as well as public expectations of inflation. The summary of each quarterly survey revealed clearly that public expectations for inflation in 2001-2016 were high enough (about 65 percent of respondents had inflation expectations), and expectations of inflation in 2016-2018 are approaching 10 percent with some fluctuations.
The seimar-discussion was in an engaging and interactive atmosphere and the participants asked questions about not only monetary policy, but also other sectors of economy.
