On December 10, 2024 a meeting-discussion was held at the Ijevan branch of YSU with the acting head of the population protection department of the Tavush regional rescue department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Major of the Rescue Service Sargis Markosyan, and the senior instructor of the operational duty shift of the Crisis Management Center Edgar Kamalyan.

The meeting was attended by the head of the YSU IB Civil Defense Headquarters G. Gulakyan and students of various specialties.

During the meeting-discussion, the employees of the Tavush regional rescue department, with the help of presentation introduced the students what an earthquake is, its types (tectonic, volcanic, collapse), and the rules of behavior of the population during an earthquake.

Reference was made to the earthquakes that occurred in 1963-1998, as well as historical earthquakes, and the 1988 earthquake was discussed, about the devastating earthquake, its magnitude, duration, lessons of the Spitak earthquake, the causes of losses and their elimination.

The concepts of "Emergency", "Disaster", "Hazard", "Vulnerability", "Capability", "Disaster Risk" were explained to the students.

What should be done during and after the earthquake to minimize material, human and moral and psychological losses was presented, then a corresponding video was shown (Link 1).

At the end of the meeting-discussion, employees of the Tavush Regional Rescue Department answered the students' questions on the topic.
