On March 29, 2025 at the initiative of Yerevan State University, a temporary exhibition entitled "The Role of Students in the Liberal Culture of Post-Soviet Armenia" was opened at the branch, the aim of which is to introduce students to the profound changes that took place in the social life of Soviet Armenia in the 1960s-80s and the role and influence of youth in them.

The opening remarks were made by the Advisor to the Director of the YSU IB, Candidiate in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Anushavan Makaryan and the Leading Researcher of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the RA, Candidate in History Aghasi Tadevosyan. Welcoming the attendees, they emphasized the importance of such events, noting that in late Soviet Armenia, students were important players in cultural innovations and intellectual life. Their participation in literary, musical, theatrical and underground movements contributed to the development of free thought and liberal cultural traditions, which also had an impact on the formation of the culture of independent Armenia.

The exhibition reflects the process of liberalization that began in Armenia in the 1960s-1980s under the conditions of the Soviet totalitarian system, its manifestations in student environments and in various spheres of youth daily life. The emergence of new approaches in stylistics, entertainment, art, music, literature and other spheres, changes in thinking, public discourse, as well as the influence of Western liberal movements in all of this are presented. Of particular interest are hippieism, rock music, cafe culture and dissident movements, self-publishing, reading banned literature and other interesting materials reflecting the period.

The temporary exhibition titled "The Role of Students in the Liberal Culture of Post-Soviet Armenia" will be open at Ijevan branch of YSU until April 16. Entry is free.
