On May 14-16, 2025, the international conference “Modern Ways of Studying Literature” was held at Smolensk State University. It was organized by the “Smolensk Center for Quantum Philology” scientific and educational center with the participation of the V. V. Vinogradov Institute of the Russian Language.

The key section of the conference was the “Armenian Text of Literature and Culture”, in those works the lecturers of the Ijevan branch of YSU (Professor Svetlana Minasyan, Elena Shuvaeva) and students took an active part. The section was chaired by Irina Viktorovna Romanova and Elena Alekseevna Shuvaeva.

The international conference of Smolensk State University, which has been held for more than a quarter of a century, this time brought together more than 110 participants: lecturers, researchers and students from seven countries and different cities.

The international conference was attended by 3rd -year students of the YSU IB “Russian Language and Literature” educational program, who, under the scientific supervision of their lecturer Elena Alekseevna Shuvaeva, had prepared reports dedicated to Armenian-Russian cultural ties and literary interactions between the two peoples.

Within the framework of the same department, students of Smolensk State University, studying the manifestation of the “Armenian text” in Russian poetry, presented their research, which had a wide chronological scope, from classical poetry to modern cultural parallels. Their speeches documented their deep knowledge in the field of Armenian culture, literature and symbols. This is not surprising, since at Smolensk University I. V. Romanova and L. V. Pavlova have been working on the project “Armenian text in Russian poetry” for more than four years, actively involving students. Last year, their achievements were awarded a bronze medal at the Armenian Studies Competition named after Academician N. Y. Mar, and this year the research “Martiros Saryan in Russian poetry” was awarded a gold medal.

It is worth noting that Smolensk State University and the Ijevan branch of YSU have signed a cooperation agreement, which will open up new opportunities for the exchange of experience and joint projects. As part of the development of this dialogue, a meeting of YSU IB students with Smolensk State University professors Irina Viktorovna Romanova and Larisa Viktorovna Pavlova will take place in Armenia on May 29.

The scientific dialogue between Smolensk and Ijevan not only continues, but also deepens, contributing to the formation of a new cultural space where Russian and Armenian traditions interact and the intersections of texts, images and meanings are studied.
