On November 19, 2025, a lecture on the topic “Achievements of Russian Science in the 21st Century” was given at the Ijevan branch of YSU by Sergey Podkovalnikov, who is a spokesperson for international media, an expert, a lecturer at the Russian Union “Znaniye”, a popularizer of science and a laureate of the media award “For Loyalty to Science”.

The lecture-discussion was attended by lecturers of the Department of Foreign Languages ​​of YSU IB M. Zurabyan, A. Aydinyan, E. Shuvayeva, students of the “Russian Language and Literature” educational program.

“The power of an eagle is in its wings, and of a person in knowledge”. Thus beginning his lecture, Sergey Podkovalnikov immediately mentioned the close interdependence of the scientific interests of Armenia and Russia and gave a vivid example: Under the leadership of Yuri Tsolaki Hovhannisyan, six superheavy elements were discovered at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, and the 118th element of Mendeleev's periodic table was named Oganesson in his honor.

The speaker presented the main achievements of modern Russian science, touched upon leading research in the fields of engineering, medicine, space technology, and digital solutions, emphasizing the role of young specialists in shaping the future of science.

The lecture focused on Kurchatov, Lomonosov, Kovalevskaya, the first female professor, regional energy consumption, and current projects of Rosatom.

The discussion moved to the space sphere, from Gagarin to international programs. The fact of Elon Musk's cooperation with Roscosmos was noteworthy.

The lecture was held in a lively atmosphere, accompanied by productive discussions on modern scientific trends. Examples of practical application of innovations and prospects for the development of scientific and educational cooperation aroused particular interest.

The students were also interested in the scientific career of Sergey Podkovalnikov, which the scientist described as a very difficult but interesting path.
