APPLY FOR THE “TEACH FOR ARMENIA” LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FELLOWSHIP

 On March 13th, 2019, YSU Ijevan Branch hosted Gor Nazaryan, manager of Recruitment and Acquisition Team at Teach for Armenia, and Angela Avagyan, Recruitment Specialist.

The meeting was attended by Assistant to YSUIB Director, Head of External Relations Department Arman Yeganyan, and the coordinator of the work with graduates and external stakeholders Erine Gharayan, dozens of graduating students.

On the agenda were the purpose and mission of the Foundation and the benefits of the program and the minimum requirements, application procedures and selection stages.

Then the representatives of “Teach for Armenia” Foundation answered students ‘questions and provided information materials and business cards.

Teach for Armenia educational foundation offers a two-year Leadership Development Program aimed at providing access to an excellent education for all children across the country. Through teacher leadership, Teach for Armenia helps to ensure that educational excellence and opportunity reaches every child across Armenia.

Teach for Armenia recruits the most committed and exceptional candidates from Armenia and the Diaspora. They are trained to become leaders and teachers and placed in underserved schools and communities as Teach for Armenia Fellows. Fellows are then placed in communities based on their educational and professional experiences and according to the needs of our partner schools. Fellows will live and work full-time as teachers in public schools throughout their two-year commitment. Fellows also lead Community Development Projects in their local areas, working with their neighbors to identify the needs of the community, create business opportunities, and boost the local infrastructure.

The program already has 42 graduates (education ambassador), and now 102 participants work in 6 regions of Armenia and 85 schools of Artsakh, teaching 11,703 students.

Anyone can apply to the program regardless of their profession.

Required qualifications

The initial requirements to be part of fellowship:

  • Bachelor’s degree achieved by July 2019 or graduated
  • Fluent knowledge of Armenian language

Those who have a profession corresponding to the subjects taught at the general school and even have no qualifications of a pedagogue can also apply to the program. The Foundation pays the tuition fee for obtaining Master’s degree.

The selection envisages several stages, the selected participants will have a 5-week training (summer school).

The meeting participants were interested in such questions as community selection, size of money support, qualification of pedagogues and selection criteria.

It was mentioned that the choice of communities depends on the demand of teaching subjects and the amount of financial support is based on conducted research and surveys, and is enough for covering household, transportation and other expenses.

This successful program of social change has more than 25 years of history and is being applied in over 50 countries around the world, which are co-organized under the “Teach for All” international network.
