- Jacques Bahry's visit to Ijevan branch of YSU
The meeting of Mr. J. Bahry with the students and lecturers of the "Foreign Language and Literature" specialty (FLL, "ELL" educational programs) took place at the YSU IB.
During the meeting, Mr. J. Bahry presented to the students their family archive, which has been kept in the Matenadaran since 2014, their path, the French-Armenian community, the Armenian Foundation of France, and their activities in the Tavush region.
In particular, it was noted that the most prominent representative of the Bahry family is his grandmother, the Istanbul-Armenian writer Zaruhi Bahry who is the author of several novels (including the novel “Parandzem” dedicated to the Great Genocide).
After the Genocide, Zaruhi was a member of the “Chezoq tun” committee and defended the cause of Armenian orphans. She continued her social and community activism in Paris as well, playing an important role in re-establishing the “School Lover” school founded in Istanbul in Paris. In memory of his grandmother, Jacques Bahry still sponsors the school’s work.
The similarities and differences between the French and Armenian educational systems were presented using the examples of the Devedjian Regional College and Ijevan branch of YSU. At the end of the meeting, Mr. Jacques Bahry answered the questions of the students and lecturers.
