YSU IB Educational and Methodological Department and the Educational Reforms and Quality Assurance Department collected and analyzed the opinions and reports of the final attestation committees on the graduates of the on-site studies of the YSU IB 2024-2025 academic year, which are very important for the university. Their results are used to further improve the organization and implementation of the qualification awarding process.

In May, the final certification of graduates of the 2024-25 academic year in 12 educational programs of 11 specialties was carried out at Ijevan branch of YSU: on May 13: "English Language and Literature", "French Language and Literature", on May 17: "Elementary Pedagogy and Methodology", "Russian Language and Literature", "Finance (by field)", "Tourism", "Design", "Decorative and Applied Arts", on May 24: "Informatics and Applied Mathematics", "Psychology", on May 31: "History", "Armenian Language and Literature".

The final certification committee of the "Armenian Language and Literature" educational program was headed by Associate Professor of the Department of Mother Tongue and Its Teaching Methods of the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Kh. Abovyan, Ph.D. Doctor Eva Mnatsakanyan.

12 graduates participated in the final attestation: 8 received "excellent", 4 - "good".

According to the Chairman of the Commission, the final attestation process was organized properly and at a high level.

In order to further improve the quality of training of specialists, the Chairman proposed:

  • give more importance to the research part in the works,

  • narrow the topics when choosing them,

  • review the scientific apparatus, including the scientific literature published recently,

  • pay more attention to the formulation of the purpose and problems of the work,

  • form the content and structure of the slides according to the key points.

The Chairman also expressed the opinion that scientific interest in individual topics can be expanded in the future, which will ensure more valuable theoretical and scientific achievements.

The final certification committee for the "History" educational program was chaired by Edgar Hovhannisyan, Dean of the Faculty of History and Social Sciences of the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Kh. Abovyan.

5 graduates participated in the final attestation: 1 received "excellent", 4 received "good".

In order to further improve the quality of training of specialists, the chairman of the committee suggested that when choosing topics for graduation theses, attention be paid to narrower topics that involve a research component. Some of the topics presented for defense had a large chronological scope.

According to the chairman of the committee, the works would benefit if their source material were further expanded. The foreign-language literature used was often not analyzed.

The final certification committee of the "Psychology" educational program was headed by Ruzanna Petrosyan, Dean of the Faculty of Educational Psychology and Sociology of the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Kh. Abovyan, Doctor of Social Sciences, Professor.

10 graduates participated in the final certification: 8 received "excellent" and 2 received "good".

To further improve the quality of training of specialists, the chairman of the commission proposed to necessarily include investment acts in the research sample, which would demonstrate the reliability of the research data.

In order to further improve the overall learning outcomes achieved by graduates, it was proposed to organize appropriate internships for the development of their practical skills and abilities, where they can conduct their research.

The final certification committee of the "Informatics and Applied Mathematics" educational program was chaired by Professor of the Department of Informatics, Computing and Management Systems of the "National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia" Foundation, Doctor of Technical Sciences Hamlet Harutyunyan.

18 graduates participated in the final certification. 10 received "excellent", 5 - "good", 3 - "satisfactory".

According to the chairman of the commission, the content of the works was mainly clearly formulated, the theoretical and practical parts formed a logical continuation. The level of defense was high, the students confidently presented their views.

In order to further improve the quality of training of specialists, the chairman proposed:

  • When choosing topics for graduation theses, pay special attention to the practical implementation of theoretical research and results, align the topics with current directions in the development of the IT sector, and include IT issues related to the region as much as possible. It is also necessary to take into account the prospects for further application of the knowledge acquired by students.

  • Include interdisciplinary research in the topics of graduation theses, encourage joint work of students studying in different educational programs.

  • It is necessary to strengthen the processes of integration with international programs, connections and cooperation with foreign universities.

The final certification committee for the "Decorative and Applied Arts" and "Design" educational programs was headed by Zaruhi Manukyan, associate professor of the joint chair of the State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia.

8 graduates participated in the final certification of the “Decorative and Applied Arts” educational program. 6 received “excellent”, 2 received “good”.

In order to further improve the quality of training of specialists, the Chairman proposed:

  • to create conditions for timely completion of work with the material,

  • to show working searches, final and intermediate sketches,

  • to revise the theoretical part, conduct more thorough studies of the material,

  • to work on the application of performance techniques and innovations.

7 graduates participated in the final certification of the “Design” educational program. 6 received “excellent”, 1 received “good”.

For further improvement, the Chairman suggested:

  • developing the color palette, reflecting modern trends,

  • paying attention to the combination of interior and exterior,

  • developing graduates' work presentation and fluent oral skills.

 

The final attestation commission of the “Tourism” educational program was chaired by the Demo Programs Consultant of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), Dr. in Economics, Professor Hovik Sayadyan.

16 graduates participated in the final attestation. 6 received “excellent”, 5 received “good”, 5 received “satisfactory”.

The chairman of the commission noted that many works contained research and innovative elements, examples of valuable analyses.

 

In order to further improve the quality of training of specialists, the president proposed to pay more attention to making proper references when writing final works and reflecting them in the list of literature, and to significantly increase the quality of cartographic and illustrative materials. The president also expressed the opinion that some graduates were hesitant when presenting their works, as well as having a problem distinguishing primary from secondary.

The final attestation committee of the “Finance (by sector)” educational program was headed by Gagik Aghajanyan, Head of the Statistics Department of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Assistant Professor.

19 graduates participated in the final attestation. 8 received “excellent”, 6 received “good”, 5 received “satisfactory”.

According to the chairman of the committee, quite ambitious and innovative proposals and solutions were given in some works.

In order to further improve the quality of training of specialists, it was proposed to make research work more versatile, develop research results, present them to departments implementing economic policies and the general public in general.

The final attestation committee of the “Russian Language and Literature” educational program was chaired by Professor of the Department of Russian Language of the “V. Bryusov State University” Foundation, M.Sc. Dr. Inna Sargsyan.

13 graduates participated in the final attestation. 12 received "excellent", 1 - "good".

According to the chairman of the committee, the final attestation process was organized at a high level. The defense of the graduation theses demonstrated the brilliant work of the scientific supervisors, the clear and professional work of the university employees. The students presented their graduation theses in a proper manner, most of which were meaningful and creative.

The chairman suggested that the students who received excellent marks continue their studies in the master's program.

In order to further improve the general learning outcomes achieved by the graduates, they were offered to participate more actively in scientific conferences.

The final certification committee for the “Elementary Pedagogy and Methodology” educational program was headed by Susanna Sisyan, Associate Professor of the Department of Pedagogy of the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Kh. Abovyan.

 

18 graduates participated in the final certification. 7 received "excellent", 10 - "good", 1 - "satisfactory".

According to the chairman of the committee, the graduates demonstrated the skills of using professional literature and analyzing and comparing them with their own interpretations and making independent professional conclusions. The level of presentation of the final works met the requirements for public defense, and proper, professionally competent and well-founded oral speech was delivered.

For further improvement, it was proposed to include the topics of the final works exclusively from the fields of elementary school pedagogy and methodology, to give greater importance to their research component, and to achieve the goal that during the defense of the final work, students demonstrate not only their abilities related to the given topic, but also the knowledge and abilities acquired during the 4 years of study.

The final attestation committee for the “Foreign Language and Literature” specialty (“French Language and Literature”, “English Language and Literature” educational programs) was chaired by Sona Hakobyan, Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics of the “European University of Armenia” Foundation, Ph.D., Associate Professor.

6 graduates participated in the final attestation of the “French Language and Literature” educational program. 5 received “excellent”, 1 received “good”. 25 graduates participated in the final attestation of the “English Language and Literature” educational program. 11 received “excellent”, 11 received “good”, 3 received “satisfactory”.

According to the chairman of the committee, the works presented very detailed and in-depth linguistic analyses. The students’ level of English and French was very high in academic terms. Their linguistic thinking was of a fundamental and well-founded nature.

In order to further improve the implementation of graduation works, the chairman of the committee suggested proposing topics that were more up-to-date and presented a wider analytical scope.

In particular, it was noted that the topics of the graduation works of the graduates of the “French Language and Literature” educational program were mainly from the field of linguistics, it would be desirable if they were also from literature. Regarding the graduates of the “English Language and Literature” educational program, the chairman expressed a wish that they would pay more attention to literary analyses.
