The Armenian Army is one of the significant achievements of our history, the guarantor of the defense and security of the homeland, created during the Artsakh Liberation War on the basis of the Yerkrapah-volunteer detachments.
In 1990, after the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, the Yerevan Special Regiment was formed, detachments were formed in Ararat, Goris, Vardenis, Ijevan and Meghri. By government decision in 1991, the State Defense Committee under the Council of Ministers was established. On January 28, 1992, the Government adopted a decision on the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia.
From 1992 to 1993 by uniting the Yerkrapah volunteer detachments and conscripts drafted into the army, a mobile and disciplined army was created.
Since June 1994, the work of army building, sustainable development, increasing the combat effectiveness of the troops, strengthening discipline, and preparing and retraining middle and senior officer personnel has finally begun.
In 2001, the day became a holiday when it was enshrined in the Law on Holidays and Remembrance Days as Army Day.
