Doctoral student of the L. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana (scientific supervisor: Svetlana Minasyan) Mariam Nursapinova is undergoing a 1-month scientific-pedagogical internship in Armenia, at the Faculty of Humanities of the Ijevan Branch of YSU, from May 11 to June 15.

This trip has become not only an important step in the academic career for the young researcher, but also a unique platform for practical work and intercultural dialogue.

During the internship, Mariam conducted a series of lectures and practical trainings for students of the Faculty of Humanities of YSU IB. The lecture “Interesting facts from the history of the development of complex sentences without a connection: How did the period, comma and dash appear?”, which was organized jointly with Svetlana Minasyan for the 3rd year students of the “Russian Language and Literature” educational program.

The internship program included students of the 1st and 3rd years of the “Russian and Literature” educational program, and students of the 1st and 2nd years of the “English and Literature” educational programs, and students of the 1st and 2nd years of the “French and Literature” educational programs.

Mariam considers one of the main achievements of the internship to be overcoming the linguistic and psychological barriers of students for whom Russian is a foreign language. During classes with first-year students, Mariam used unique methods of engagement that allowed students to express themselves freely. At the end of the lessons, the participants not only actively discussed the topic, but also sang French, English and Armenian songs together.

In addition to teaching, Mariam has been actively conducting research aimed at studying the peculiarities of teaching Russian as a foreign language in Armenia. As part of her research, she conducted an extensive survey and empirical testing among students of the YSU IB. The collected data served as the basis for a scientific article, and the results of the research will be presented at an international scientific conference. According to Mariam, comparing the language levels of future philologists and students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages helped her to take a deeper look at Russian as one of the most interesting and complex languages for study in an international environment.

The internship was impressed in Mariam’s memory by the warmth of hospitality and the deep “national code” of the host country. It was a pleasant discovery that the Armenian students were well acquainted with the modern culture of Kazakhstan: they knew the musicians, athletes and stand-up comedians, which was also surprising for the local lecturers.

“The main thing in any country is people, their sincerity and simplicity. I am very happy that I managed to work with the students of the Ijevan branch of Yerevan State University, gain this valuable professional experience and feel indescribable support from both the teaching staff and every person I met on my way,” Mariam expressed her impressions this way.

On behalf of the YSU IB Administration and the entire staff, we congratulate Mariam Nursapinova on successfully completing the internship, obtaining valuable empirical results for scientific work and representing our university with dignity at the international level.
